Be You. Wag Your Tail More!

Welcome to wildchild708!

Some ask why the name wildchild708? You are certainly not wild. Were you a wildchild? Well, rather than have several stores like some with just vintage, just jewelry, just handcrafted I thought I would be wild and combine everything. That was one thought. But the name actually came because our beloved Henry who was a shepherd/husky of 13 years died. He was a gentle sole but a protector. When he died our house was so empty and quiet so we decided to adopt again. Our hearts were captured once again. If you haven’t adopted a dog from a shelter you will never experience life like those that do.

We found out quickly that cute little guy was a wildchild especially compared to our other guy. If you have ever read Marley and Me he surpassed that dog in every way. Yes, holy smokes.

Two years and we lost our wildchild Charlie to cancer (summer 2015). It was so heartbreaking as we didn’t get to share the experiences with Charlie as we did with Henry.

Once again we registered with the SPCA and figured we would take a slow time in finding that perfect fit. Forget that. The angels set us a sign. One day, 1 minute before walking out the door at work I peaked at the shelter’s site. A Shepherd was just posted with the name of Charlie. Surely a sign. A shepherd with the name of Charlie. I drove like a mad person (not really because it was rush hour) and literally ran from the parking lot and said I want to see him flashing my pre registration card. Fell in love with a giant compared to our other guys and put a deposit on him so hubby could have a meet and greet. When checking him out we got a good laugh as the label on his file said wallflower. wildchild to wallflower. I think these dogs gravitate to us. As several people had said to us God knows who to send them to. LOL

Our Rexie, is a blend of both dog’s personalities and looks. One minute this sweet innocent dog laying on your lap to a crazy 80 pound pouncing on you the next minute. We lost our dear Rexie to a bacterial infection more than likely from the wildlife. One minute he was fine and the next he was gone. We were devastated as another young dog died much too quickly.

We had so much love to give. When my husband said how about another shepherd I started looking. A seven year old was at an out of town shelter and she had been there 2 months with no takers. How could that be we asked ourselves. She was a beauty. Yes, a girl this time around. So I inquired what was going on with her. Why did the previous family bring her in. The shelter worker said well she lunges. I said what do you mean by that. She said well when they tied her outside she lunged at people. I just started laughing and said well if you tied me up I would lunge at you. What else. She didn’t like to hugged. First thing I thought was she abused. We thought well two young dogs died too quickly why not give an older dog a chance. So off we went. It was a good drive hour and half drive out of town. On the drive there a big old cloud in a shape of a feather appeared, then a cloud shaped like an angel. Surely a sign as we drove through the country roads. She captured our hearts. I think the shelter people might have thought we would walk after meeting her. Nope, little did they know our other dogs prepared us for her. She was a little of everything of their personalities. And on the ride home a message in the clouds from Rexie topped that day for our sweet Abby. So, if you are thinking of adopting a dog give that older dog a chance. She soon found she was safe and we could give her space. Yes, she allowed us to hug her. She had a good life. Not long enough. We cried again.

The big winter storm came in 2023 that gave us 4 feet of snow. No driving so stuck in the house or outside shoveling. And we just lost Abby. I don’t know what made me look but I pulled up a site that sells all sorts of things. I could not believe it as there was a picture of dog that looked like our Henry. I truly believe Henry sent us to this dog. It lived in the country and on a road that my sister had once lived on when I was a young adult. It was weird. We shot off a email to the owner of the home he would live in. With the ban on driving and the blizzard conditions we wondered it there was a possibility we would ever connect. We did. Fell immediately in love. The owner cried. A week later Scout was standing in our home scouting out his new forever home. Another wildchild,

The 708 came out of two sources. We are quite fortunate to have a great library system in WNY. Books, magazines, movies and music are part of our daily life. The dewey decimal system indicates 708 is for collections and in numerology 708 is an angel number. As a believer it was appropriate. Thus wildchild708.
